Irena: #s 1 and 2 are grammatically correct, but these sentences are a little awkward, e.g. the season really has nothing to do with the election;-) #3--good, but you are missing a verb!

1. For the third times in history, this year Thanksgiving is followed by the federal election on Tuesday.
2. This year Thanksgiving is followed by the federal election on Tuesday because Prime Minister Harper decided that it was a propitious date.
3. This year Thanksgiving is followed by the federal election on Tuesday, but people will need to wait few weeks for the United States one.

Richard: #1--OK, but there is a number error; 2--good, but maybe it will not turn out to be so propitious;-)#3--good, but note the difference between "few" and "a few".
