This year on Valentines Day, I had a surprise when my husband sent me flowers at work.
Nancy: You need three different sentences here. You have #2; Would you like to try #s 1 and 3?
When I got home from work this year on Valentines Day I had a surprise.
This year on Valentines Day, I had a suprise waiting for me when I got home.
This year on Valentines Day I had a surprise in my car.
Kelsey: Your 3rd entry adds a phrase;your first and second entries add a dependent clause. You can post all your answers in the one post--label them 1, 2, and 3 so it is clear which one is which;-)
#1. On Valentine's Day, I had a surprise.
#3. I had a surprise on Valentine's day.
Nancy: You had the right idea with your first post, but there was only one sentence instead of three. You need to keep the original independent clause in each of the sentences and add to that clause in the manner indicated.
